Stagecraft Workshop from West End legend in Reigate

In the half term, the Reigate School of Ballet and Commercial Dance will be joined by Mrs Hazel Collinson to teach stagecraft and musical theatre performance techniques in a one-off workshop.

Mrs Collinson has been in the theatre industry for a number of years and she has a vast knowledge and experience of stagecraft, directing and staging musical theatre and dance numbers. She has taught today’s leading West End stars, including those in leading roles over the past 10 years.

short biography

Hazel came from a theatre family in Dublin and first performed at the age of 3 in a song and dance act. By 14 she was playing Annie in 'Annie Get your Gun', and continued to perform in summer seasons, musicals and Panto leads in the Geity Theatre, Dublin.

She came over to London to take over from Barbara Streisand in the West End in her 20s, and performed her cabaret act in the Pigalle / The Talk of the Town and the Society Clubs. Summer Seasons with Charlie Drake, Tommy Copper and Cilla Black followed.

After a huge career and performing experience with such big names, Hazel then became Head of Musical Theatre in the pupils school of the Arts Educational School in Chiswick, and is now Director of Trinity College MT exams.

Since being at the stage school, Hazel has taught many present big names of the stage, including Scarlett, Summer and Zizi Vaigncourt-Strallen, and Samantha Barks, who recently starred in the film version of 'Les Miserables'.

Both Jo (the principal of the Reigate School of Ballet) and Gareth (musical director and vocal coach at the Reigate School of Ballet's Musical Theatre course) have worked for a long time with Hazel, and we have had many fond and memorable times with her while she worked.
