Reigate Dance Stars Shine in Redhill

Reigate School of Ballet & RSB Dance pupils performed in this year's Star for a Night show, which was directed by the RSB Schools. The 2 shows at the Harlequin Theatre Redhill were a huge success, and included a wide variety of dance and musical genres this year. Dance, Music and Acting performances were on show, and this year musicians and bands were invited to perform - these included solo pianists accompanied by solo dancers, and two rock bands.

DANCE

Like our own dance shows, we wanted to provide a wide variety of dance styles for the children to sample and perform - these included street and commercial hip-hop, contemporary and lyrical dance, ballet solos (performed by Millie Thompson) accompanied by Liam Jones on the piano, and a dance on pointe accompanied by solo singer Suona Simb singing Emeli Sande's 'Clown'.

MUSIC

Pupils learnt songs from many genres including musical theatre, pop, classical and rock. We had large chorus medley's from Godspell, Dreamgirls and pop songs which were enjoyed by both children and audiences alike, solo musicians and singers, grouped singers and harmony vocals and of course the introduction of musicians and bands.

ACTING

The number of pupils wanting to act this year grew and we had large acting pieces in a variety of pieces from the 'Wizard of Oz' to Alan Ayckbourn's 'Ernie's Incredible Illucinations', and a scene from Blood Brothers.

Both Jo and Gareth thoroughly enjoyed the experience - a chance to see talent from a wide variety of pupils who (due to the nature of the show) could express themselves in a different way. It's provides yet another avenue for pupils to perform and devleop their confidence without the expense. Reigate and Banstead Borough Council raise the money to provide this free tuition for 9 weeks, culminating in a show at the Harlequin Theatre, Redhill. It provides opportunities in so many different ways and may it long continue.

Ex-Star for a Night pupils Josh Bailey came back to support the cast and help out as well. Josh recently performed on the BBC's 'Let it Shine' which he performed at the end of our show this year before the finale.

RSB Dance Schools (Reigate School of Ballet & Commercial Dance / RSB Dance / Dorking School of Dance) believe in offering professional tuition in performing at affordable prices. We provide an experienced team of tutors to develop the skills of young children from ages 18 months to adult in all our dance and musical theatre classes in Reigate, Redhill and Dorking.

In the meantime a HUGE WELL DONE to all pupils who participated in the show and we hope they enjoyed it as much as ourselves!
