After 26 years of teaching dance at the Reigate School of Ballet & Commercial Dance, our very own Nikki retires after a long and successful performing and teaching career. Nikki was the principal of the Reigate School of Modern Theatre Dance (the sister school of the Reigate School of Ballet at the time). Both Nikki and Jo have led the schools for many years and have taught thousands of children and adults in the Reigate and Redhill area.
Nikki was known for her high energy and fun-nature throughout her classes, and after a long performing career, she took over the Reigate School of Modern Theatre Dance from Penny Lambert in 1990, while Jo took over the Reigate School of Ballet from Shirley Knight 3 years later.
Both schools were the leading dance schools in the area, and the Tap and Modern division grew under Nikki's leadership. Nikki was also a fantastic choreographer, and many of our senior pupils were lucky to experience teachings and artistic flair.
When Nikki decided to stop being the principal of the the Modern and Tap School, she continued to teach actively for the Reigate School of Ballet & Commercial Dance, and her school was renamed RSB Dance. Now both schools are under the leadership of Joanne Evans.
As a gift, Nikki was presented with a specially commissioned piece of jewellry and all the teachers went to Alexander House for cream tea (and some cake.....)! Miss Rachael, Miss Kelly, Miss Evans and Miss Benjamin all came to the afternoon event - Miss Lucy and Miss Sands unfortunately were unable to come.
The Reigate School of Ballet & Commercial Dance will be extremely sad to see Miss Owen retiring, but she has promised to be a guest teacher and be involved with local events, workshops and summer schools etc.
Our glasses are raised to Nikki - you will be a very tough act to follow!
